If you follow my posts you most likely know that I have recently published my first book (you can get your copy from my website – https://owenmccall.com/). Personally, I found the process of writing a book to be difficult and challenging and I am glad that is is over. I am so glad that it’s over that I have decided to write another book (its a kind of madness) but I’d like to do it differently, I’d like to do it with you!
The new book will focus on answering the question “What does it take to transition from a successful “analogue” organisation to a successful digital leader?”
It’s not news that many organisations today are looking to go digital but the reality is that most of the case studies of what does digital look like come from so called digital native companies. You know them, they are the Uber’s and AirBnB’s, the Amazon’s and Google’s. These case studies have value but these companies were born digital their issues are different than the issues faced by traditionally analogue organisations. There is a real lack of case studies for organisations who were born analogue who have successfully transitioned. Those that do exist highlight one small change or are case studies that looked promising and are now struggling.
The thing is, most of my clients and in fact most of the organisations in the world were born analogue and there is precious little guidance on how to become digital or even what that means!!!
I’d like to change that and my objective is to write a book that addressees the issue of how can successful analogue organisations become successful digital organisations. The reality is however I don’t have all the answers so I’d like to write it with you, experts in technology, digital, leadership and organisational change. I’m betting that between us we have the answers we need and can create transition path.
So, are you interested in sharing your expertise and learning from your peers? If you have ever considered contributing your knowledge to authoring a book or are simply a little intrigued by the whole idea, I’d like to invite you to join me and a group of your peers to contribute to the creation of this book.
How can you get involved? Currently you can get involved by joining our LinkedIn Group and contributing your expertise there, you can come along to one of our get togethers for what I promise will be a robust and interesting discussion. You can also comment on articles I publish in LinkedIn that capture the outcomes of our discussions.
You should know the process has started. Groups in Auckland and Christchurch participated in a conversation that has identified in excess of 100 topic suggestions for issues, opportunities and challenges of “going digital”. It’s a great start!!! I have reviewed these ideas, rationalised them to a “short list” of 27 topics under 7 headings (seven chapters perhaps):
- Issues and challenges
- Drivers of digital performance
- Defining the value of digital
- Getting started
- Implications for you operating model
- Going digital is whole of business undertaking
- Culture and leadership
Be part of the conversation as we explore the key topics together, share experiences, learn from each other and begin to form conclusions on what it takes to successfully transition from analogue to digital.
Here’s to a great conversation!!!
